Playing with Mathematics - "Mathematische Spielwiese" The Playing with Mathematics Program has been at Hölderlin Gymnasium since the school year of 1986-87, named "MATHEMATISCHE SPIELWIESE (MS)". The program has been initiated by Albert Wolfer and he is responsible for it. Many students participate in a large and active way in this competition and wait excitedly, expectantly, with bated breath for the next assignment. The students are challenged with creative types of problems that require mathematical thinking and problem solving; skills which, unfortunately, usually are not taken far enough within the regularly allotted lesson time.The assignments are directed towards students in the 5th, 6th, and 7th class. Despite this, parents and siblings also enjoy taking part in the Playing with Mathematics competition. We now welcome all pupils within this age group and who have the desire to participate in these mathematical puzzles. Of course, those who enjoy riddles may also try out the problems. Every few weeks there is a new problem sheet covering different areas of mathematics and logic. Hopefully, these puzzle-type problems are constructed in such a way that even our beginners are able to solve them. Eva Kuhn and Michael Kuron have played a big part in the Playing with Mathematics Program at Hölderlin Gymnasium during this 2005-2006 school year.
Playing with Mathematics is also present on the internet under Hölderlin Gymnasium´s homepage, www.hoegy.de. There you find, among other things, the newest problems (written in German) and the solutions of all previous problems.
